"SUNDARBANS" The lungs of Bangladesh

Sundarbans the lungs of Bangladesh

The Sundarbans is that the world's largest continuous mangrove forest, covering some 10,000 square kilometers of land and water within the Ganges Delta, with some 62% (6,017 square kilometers) located in Bangladesh and thus others within the Indian state of West Bengal. The Sundarbans play an important role within the economy of the southwestern region of Bangladesh also as within the economy.  About 4.01% of the complete area of Bangladesh which belongs to Sundarbans and 39.5% of total forest that plays a vital role to protect against the environmental catastrophe of the country. Rapid global temperature change is additionally posing a threat to the existence of Sundarbans. we'll see that approximately 3.5 lakh people directly and also quite 11 lakh people indirectly depend on this forest.

After the attack of SIDAR & AILA on Sundarbans, the govt. banned permit Boat License Certificate for one year to recover the previous image and most of the communities were forced to quit their profession which they came to town or city trying to hunt out employment for sustaining their family. Besides, many of them were jobless or passing miserable conditions. As a result, now about 48% of individuals near Sundarbans live under the 'upper poverty line' in keeping with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics. Besides, the people of this region sleep in physically vulnerable circumstances. the planet is cyclone prone, monsoonal, and low-lying, with many settlements located alongside the waterways and coastline.

There are various communities who are fully enthusiastic to Sundarbans like nip collector, honey collector, fishermen, wood picker, woodcutter, etc and their number are nip collector-150000, honey collector-8000, Carpenter (boat repairman)-2000, Wood picker-1000, Carpenter-15000, fishermen including different business-1,15,000 et al. labor- 10000. it's said that after the attack of SIDR & AILA most of the professionals are faced with problems which they're didn't continue their activities as a result they're now unemployed. Also, after the attack of those two powerful natural forces on Sundarbans, it's become the vulnerable circumstances than before and a number of quarters of the globe heritage site Sundarbans were damaged. Researchers said mangrove forest Sundarbans will take a minimum of 45 years to recover itself from this catastrophe.

It has been discussed tons regarding the preservation and development of Sundarbans but it didn't bring an honest result. the govt. is reluctant to urge obviate the drawbacks of the Sundarbans which might ease further destruction. Now the communities of the planet are terrified of stepping into the forest without giving charge and Fish dacoit, Forest robber, a Smuggler is so prevalent within the forest that we are going to lose huge resources and it'd be the place of them that helps to decay the forest in no time.

Besides, there is a conflict between Man-Animal, Man-Forest, and Wild Animal - Forest, and it should be stopped by taking adequate steps for the conservation of the Sundarbans. the govt. started once SBCP (Sundarbans Biodiversity Conservation Project) and IPAC (Integrated Protected Area Co-management) programs for stepping into the forest of the communities but now it's stopped SBCP that hamper the livelihood of the communities within the forest area. the govt. also should take some steps like Eco-development, Village Forest Protection Committees, Education and Awareness, protection squads, Rural services for women; Implementation of the Fish Act: Awareness-building and species protection; Training in sustainable fry collection; Tree planting schemes and a nursery development program; Strip plantation along embankments, roads, and highways, etc for the protection of our Sundarbans. it's needed to accord with the community to conserve the forest because they're able to provide sufficient knowledge regarding the protection of Sundarbans. It's our resource so we have to protect it.
